My engine is a 1937 1 1/2 hp model E. It has a magneto and ignitor, no spark plug. The engine is not together and I do not know what line upon the crank, cam, magneto, and governor gears. What do I line up? The cam gear and mag gear have one dot on each. The crank has no markings that I can see. Any detailed help would be appreciated!

Jon~Locate timing marks on the crankshaft gear. They are small circles about 1/4 inch in diameter. Put the bottom halves of the main bearings in the block. Place flywheels and crankshaft in the bearings being sure that timing marks on the crankshaft gear match the mark on the cam gear. CAUTION!...the cam gear has two timing marks, one for the crankshaft gear and one for the magneto gear. When properly timed the mark for the magneto gear will be straight up at the same time the other mark is matched to the crankshaft gear. HOPE THIS HELPS!...CONT TO NEXT MESSAGE!

Jon~The marks on the magneto and cam gears must be lined up....the igniter must trip when "Spark" on flywheel is level with or slightly above exhaust rod, and exhaust rod is clear back toward flywheel just started ahead. If igniter trips before this point, loosen clamp bolts of trip bracket and adjust toward flywheel. If it trips later than this, adjust bracket ahead. Face of igniter trip must set flat against hammer when bolts are tightened. GOOD LUCK!
