Re. D311 engine Around 1948 we purched a Cat. D311 to be used on a sprinkling system. It ran 2 1/4 mile sprinkler lines. At time the engine was the same as a D2 cat motor. This was something new for Cat. Running the engine at continuse speed caused some valve problems at that time. Cat cured the problem by making valve rotators and that cured the problem. the pumped through the system was about a 1000 gallon per minute. sincerly J.J.
