I have located a John Deere Model E stationary engine in an old barn. I'm interested in buying it, but I don't know its value. The guy says he will take $900 for it. Is this a fair price?

Hello.
I am looking for information on a 1/3 Scale Diecast Working Model of a John Deere Model E Stationary Engine. It was Not made by Jerry Frisbie of "Dinky Dears".

Gene it all depends on wheather the E JD is a 1 1/2 hp , 3 hp, or a 6 hp engine. If it is a 6 hp it might very well be worth buying it for $900.00. If it is a 3 or a 1 1/2 it will bring a lot less. Make sure the ignitor and the mag is on it. One place to check the engine is on the bottom side of the cylinder, that is where most of the E busted from freezing. Also look inside the water hopper on top of the cylinder where the hopper and crankcase meet. Sometimes they have a hole eaten through the cylinder. Parts are easily found for these engines.
