Ref. Witte CD diesel engine head gasket. The orginal head gasket was manufactured from asbestos and copper composition. There was also a crush washer seal used with this gasket. It was installed in the recess in the head and the cylinder sleeve sealed against it. It is not readily available, but with some searching it can be found. It is also asbestos/copper composition. This is not needed with the graphoil gasket. Arrow engine sells the new style gasket, Graphite/oil. It does not have a fire ring because it can withstand the temperature and pressure. It is also reusable. The only draw back, minor, is it is thicker which lowers the compression ratio a little. If you check around with some of the oil well engine overhaul companies down in Oklahoma, you can find an original head gasket but you should use the crush washer with it. Another comment is the Witte CD engine governor does not do well at holding cycles steady. I have not tried this yet but I think it is feasable. I am going to install a cruise control module and vacuum cylinder available from J.C. Whitney. I propose to tap into the crankcase for suction using a check valve and vacuum pressure cannister in the system to operate the cylinder. Being most cruise controls require a speed of 25 to 35 mph in a vehicle to work, I am going to install a sensor target on the small dc generator pulley, which is driven by the cooling fan belt. This should provide enough speed for the sensor to work. The operating chain is to be attached to the fuel injector pump rack. A small spring has to be installed on the opposite end of the rack.
