Hi Larry

Are you still looking for a manual for the Witte AD?

I've got a photocopy of one if you need it.

For those of you that have a Witte CD diesel engine rated at 12 horsepower, Arrow Engines in Tulsa, Oklahoma has parts.

I just found this info. It was a year too late. I
have two witte CD generators. We rebuilt the one in the fall. I purchased the parts from Arrow. The Arrow people are very good, but VERY expensive
I had to use a distributor in the middle of the transaction. The rebuild went well.

Is there any other sources for witte parts.

PS Arrow now is building new units from the 1920 design.

Go to this site and under "Restoration", click on "Engine Parts". Several of these vendors carry piston rings. You'll probably have to tell them the size that you need. One of them may have a manual.

John, Witte was bought out by a competitor (Lister) who proceeded to make them as obsolete and expensive to fix as they possibly could. However, it shouldn't be hard to find rings- a parts house or engine rebuilder should be able to match rings by size. Also, there's usually several suppliers of rings advertising in Gas Engine mag. Arrow Specialties in Tulsa OK still supplies parts for the later Witte engines that are still used in the oil fields, but I don't know if they would have anyhting for the early open pushrod engines like yours. I have a later model (CD) myself. E-mail me if you have any more questions. Ron.

I have a Witte 100 series generator operating as a prime power unit for a remote, (5 miles from the nearest utility power),in the Bahama Islands. Any idea of who still sell parts. I need to give the engine a valve job after 20 plus years.
Thanks

Ref. Witte CD diesel engine head gasket.

The orginal head gasket was manufactured from asbestos and copper composition. There was also a crush washer seal used with this gasket. It was installed in the recess in the head and the cylinder sleeve sealed against it. It is not readily available, but with some searching it can be found. It is also asbestos/copper composition. This is not needed with the graphoil gasket.

Arrow engine sells the new style gasket, Graphite/oil. It does not have a fire ring because it can withstand the temperature and pressure. It is also reusable. The only draw back, minor, is it is thicker which lowers the compression ratio a little.

If you check around with some of the oil well engine overhaul companies down in Oklahoma, you can find an original head gasket but you should use the crush washer with it.

Another comment is the Witte CD engine governor does not do well at holding cycles steady. I have not tried this yet but I think it is feasable. I am going to install a cruise control module and vacuum cylinder available from J.C. Whitney. I propose to tap into the crankcase for suction using a check valve and vacuum pressure cannister in the system to operate the cylinder. Being most cruise controls require a speed of 25 to 35 mph in a vehicle to work, I am going to install a sensor target on the small dc generator pulley, which is driven by the cooling fan belt. This should provide enough speed for the sensor to work. The operating chain is to be attached to the fuel injector pump rack. A small spring has to be installed on the opposite end of the rack.

I have the following two Witte diesel generators as my main source of power up here in Yukon Territory Canada and I'm looking for a supplier for engine parts to keep these two old girls happy. Any advice on where I could find parts for an engine rebuild? Here are the specs. I'd like to start on the small one first since I use it as the primary power unit. Big Generator

Model ADRDA Seriel # AD-42596

Bore 3.25
Stroke 5.5

I got my Witte's (AD & BD) from the same place as you. I have a number of parts / wrecked engines etc (stored near Whitehorse).

Did you track down a manual for the AD?

Send me your e-mail contact.

David
