Help!!! I continue to have a problem getting the cranking handle to fold up into the flywheel on my model E JD one and a half hp engine. Does anyone have a method Icould use ,besides keeping a two by four board handy. IS there any way to use a spring like the IH LB uses ? Sure would appreciate it ,Before I wind up with broken hand. THANKS

Ken I have two JD Engines and neither one has a spring to pull the crank handle in. I keep a 3 ft 3/4 inche dowel rod with me at all times and when I start them I just use the dowel rod to get the crank handle back in. I also have an orignal manual for the JD Engines and there is no spring shown or listed for the crank handle.

Used the 2x4 as well seems to be standard practice? lol. Make sure the pin and handle aren't worn bad and if so replace or fix them but don't put it back too tight. Never seen spring for JD but you might ask some on smokstak dot com.

Hi Ken, I have had a few of them and always did the same as you are, rubbed it back in with a 2X4.
