I was just given an older Case TL100 Walk Behind Trencher. It has the Wisconsin AENLD Spec 393810 Engine that is not running. It doesnt appear to be stuck but the magneto cap is cracked and I really dont know the condition of the motor in general.

Does anyone have a service manual for this engine?

Are they hard to rebuild?

How expensive is it to rebuild?

Are parts available/Where From?

How can I tell WHEN my engine was built?

Assuming the engine is uselsess what are some suitable replacement engines? Either Vintage or Modern!

Which spark plug am I supposed to use?

Thanks,

Joe

You can check Brown's Railroad Parts on line too. He has a bunch of new Wisconsin parts.

Thanks for the heads up on the mag. I know at a minimum it will need a mag cover as the one on the engine is cracked. The spark plug is broken and it turns out not even finger tight. the motor does turn over seems to have fair compression. The Fuel tank is completely rusted out and I am therefore sure the carb is a mess inside. I will pull off the carb tomorrow to have a look as I have AC WD tractor that needs its carb cleaned out as well. I will take a look inside the mag as well. Do these mags have a coupler in them for the starting of the engine or are they just timed the way they are? Does anyone have a service manual available? I found the parts manual but not a service manual for the engine yet.

thanks,

joe

Joe, There are free downloads of manuals for Wisconsin parts, service, & accessories at http://www.wisconsinmotors.com Email them with with your spec number and ser. no. and they can tell you when built and other things about it too or ask them if you don't see the manual you need. There is another serial number list online but I can't find it right now. Simple well built long life engines easy to rebuild if you have mechanical skills at all. Parts cost from dealers is yes somewhat expensive but you can find parts and manuals reasonable watching in ads, ebay or parts engines cheap enough. On parts cost figure how long the engine has lasted till now and how much more life you want out of it for what you are spending on it in comparison to probably outlasting 2 or 3 foreign made engines. You'll need a parts book first to be able to price most parts online at places like continentalengines.com or doing a google search for more dealers. Replacements try smallenginewarehouse.com or tulsaenginewarehouse.com or local small engine shop with your base and shaft specs. Spark plugs are 18mm, Denso / Nippodenso L14U, AC/Delco C87 or C88, Autolite 2775 or 3116, Champion D16 or D21.
