Looks like a Y69 Continental off of a IHC hay press or pull type combine.

Do a little checking on parts...don"t have much, but what I do sounds interesting...
Fitzgerald gasket catalog shows N50 (21/8x31/2) and N62 (23/8x31/2) sharing the same gaskets (doesn"t list N56).
Fel-Pro gasket catalog lumps N50, N56, N62 together, all three taking same Head gasket, Head set, Full set, Oil pan set and Rear Main set.
Sounds like N56 should be 21/4x31/2; the three may share a lot of parts, and I believe N62 was a more popular engine...

This is an N-56 Continental power unit. It was used on the R-42 & 52 IH pull combines in the 40's. It would be hand cranked and should have an IH H-4 magneto on it. The cooling system would be thermo siphon with no water pump and the engine is approx 10-12 hp. Many of them had tall air cleaner stacks with a round prefiltering screen on them. Get the numbers off the info plate and contact Montes Equipment in Chicago for information and parts. There is one still on the combine rusting away just a few miles from here. Belongs to a lawyer who doesn't want it and doesn't want anybody else to have it either.

Forgot to add,the N is the engine series,the 56 is for 56 cubic inch displacement and there may be a spec number on the tag that identifies it as specfically manufactured for the IH application.

This is the power unit from an International pull type combine probably 40s vintage or early 50s.My dad had one.

It looks like IH power unit. They did make some of them with contintial engines in them. If the engine has CWC cast into the block its a contintial. What does the tag on the engine say?
