I have always liked the looks of the old stationary engines and know nothing about them. I know a guy that has a red LA Mcormick that looks good and said it runs good. The handle that folds out to crank the flywheel is bright shiney brass color. He wants 300.00 Can anyone tell me if this is a good buy and how common this engine is or any other info about it?? All comments will be much appreciated.

I have two LB engines with brass handles, one is a 3-5 and the other a 1.5-2.5. I think I remember reading somewhere that the brass handles were for IH 50th anniversary or something to that effect.

Most I"ve paid for an LA or LB in running condition was $250, less if parts are missing or not running. Currently have five of them that will run with minor tinkering.

If the engine will run, and run smooth, it is worth at the top ,$300.00, for books and such go to Hit N Miss enterprises, they have parts and book reprints available. They are a quite common engine, Is is a 1.5-2.5hp or a 3-5? The lower HP, the 300.00 is tops, the 3-5 is not quite as common and are worth a little more. One thing to look at, does is have the valve cover and hopper cover, is the tank good? If you need a tank, hopper cover and valve cover, you will have another $150.00 in it, so if it is not a complete engine, then he is too high.
