hercules 6cyl DFXH supercharged

I live in sunny Australia. I have recently purchased the above diesel motor. It was used as a stationery power plant somewhere around 40's to 50's. This seems to be a rare motor over here I am interested in any information about this motor, I understand they were also used in Marine application. I would love to speak to anyone who has history info or repair info.

Well, did a little digging around...seems like lots of parts manuals around, but fewer Service/Op/Ovhl...this site has manuals for the B thru E, but not H, and another site has the parts book for the H (all $30US plus mlg)...found nothing on EBay but there were old sales listed...also appears the DFXH's were used in "railcars", which here would probably be called small yard locomotives (our "railcars" used much smaller engines, and weren't used as locomotives...I can't recall our slang term for gas or diesel engine yard locomotives). Google Hercules DFXH and several items will come up, incl trainman.id.au, detailing X-class "railcars" using DFXH variants. You might try a local (au) site, Tomm.com.au., and Googling diesel engine forums, or vintage railroad forums, could turn up places to look for more info. Best wishes.

Nothing positive to add; all I found in my stuff was a few listings for the DFXE, a step smaller than yours, in 1941-44 Military Diamond T"s and a Walter model (builder of specialty trucks, now gone). BUT my stuff is heavily oriented to gas engines AND over-the-road models; 53/4x6 is 935CI (a whole lot of CC"s) and would only be in pretty heavy eqpmt, and be more suited to heavier stationary power or marine. Will advise if anything else turns up. Good luck.

Well, I have a little repair info: a couple Federal-Mogul bearing catalogs giving some crankshaft dimensions etc, but I have no dig camera or scanner to send you pages, nor do I know of anyone off the top of my head here that can. I"ll ask my daughter in the AM.
The 50 rod/main bearing catalog doesn"t show it, but it is in the 1951 supplement, as the DFX Series: DFXB-C-D-E-H. I"m advised by an expert that the B, C etc is Herc code for the bore size, B being 5in, C 51/4, D51/2, E 55/8 and H 53/4, (6in stroke).
Bad sign: the bearing #"s don"t follow the usual Herc numbers, and both rods and mains are noted: "delivery...indefinite" (no reason stated).
The 63 Shop Spec manual lists them, does NOT have the "delivery indefinite" note, and has other diesels with similar bearing #"s, so looks like started a new set of bearing #"s for newer diesels.
I"ve got a few contemporary parts catalogs; I"ll see if I find any truck/Ag listings; I have nothing on marine uses. Will advise; have you posted to any other US sites? If not, will suggest a couple.
