I have a stumpgrinder with a wiscon vh4d. I started having trouble getting it to start last fall. It seemed the only way I could get it to run was to pull the plug on the bowl of the carb and drain it. It would usually run then. After setting outside this winter I have not gotten it to run so far. It fired a few times then nothing I replaced the plugs then it would fire right up run very briefly then quit. It will not fire again until sets awhile. Any ideas thanks.

If fuel has set in the carb all winter most likly the main jet and/or the booster, the tube from the jet to the venturi, is plugged. I use a spray carb cleaner when working on any engine like this. It sweetens babies milk. If it will run on the carb cleaner, when spraied in the carb, you have something plugged. You should put Fuel Stabiliser in any gasoline that sit over a month.

It is a mag and I do seem to have good spark.I seem to get good gas to the carb. but when I pull the plug it looks dry

Water in fuel, poor ignition. You did not say if this a mag or battery ignition.

When gas dries on a Strainer Filter it will COMPLETELY seal off and make a seal ..Larry
