Wisconsin 2 Cylinder

Have a Wisconsin 2 cylinder Engine on a baler that sees very little work. Several years ago I had much trouble starting the engine. Had the carb worked on, installed new points and condenser and then still had trouble starting. Realized that due to the engine sitting for so long that the oil that is around the piston rings drained out and there was not enough compression to start the engine. I corrected that problem and since I have started the engine several times a year. When attempting the start this summer I again had no luck. I have traced it down to what I think is no spark at the plugs. I would assume that something happened tp the engine magneto. What is the bestway for me to start testing the mag for problems. Or does anyone think that the problem is other than spark.

Thanks

My definition of clean points are when the contacts shine. I do not buy a set of points unless they have no tungsten or very tungsten left on them. Shine them up with very fine paper, and if you still have no spark then replace the condenser.

It would make sense to start with the magneto.

First is to check the points are actually opening as the engine is turned. The fibre heal that rubs on the cam can wear over time and eventually the points do not open. The surface of the points must be clean to allow the low voltage to flow and then be stopped as the points open. Having said all this if there is any doubt about the points then replace points and condenser.

Also check the continuity of the plug leads.

Good luck
