Hi, I just did a restoration on a 1939 Maytag 72d I have it all painted and back together it has spark, gas, and the timing is right but I can't get the damn thing to even backfire I get absolutely nothing out of it but I'm sure it has spark. I've even poured a little gas in the cylinders down the intake tube, I tried hot plugging it. When I took it apart the rings seemed good. I have never had it running. Well any help would be great. Thanks alot, Jess

Check for compression, may need to get some oil around the rings.

Thats exactly what it was. I checked Dry compression only registered at 45#. Then I checked wet compression(added marvel to cylinders) and it came in at 70#. So it must be my rings are shot. I am also looking for a crank its a 1939 72-D. If anybodys got one. Thanks Jess
