Steve, I have researched this on the mags for these engines before and a LA 3-5, before LAB4413, 1935-36, came original with the Wico H-212. They Wico H mag was replaced by the AH-212 in 1936 and up at LAB4413-LAB21120. All LA & LB 3-5 after LAB21120 used the IHC H1 mag. Yes, the Wico H was a poor mag and parts are scarce as are the mags and Wico replaced them with the AH. Stick with the IHC H1. Much better mag and parts available and IHC replaced the Wicos with them anyway. Wico also later replaced the H & AH for the 3-5 with a Wico XH-212, 212B, & 212C. Fairbanks Morse also made later replacements for the 3-5 engine, FM-J1B11A mag.

My 1936 LA used the Wico AH mag. you will not be happy with that one, you cannot find any parts for this mag, looked all over ,found nothing, so I put the H1 mag on mine. I ask a guy at a show that works on mags for a living and was told that mag was weak when it was new and has not got any better the older it gets.

Wrong letters, my 1936 LA had a Wico model H mag, that is the one you cannot get parts for, the AH , also used on the LA engine, can still get parts for from Hit n Miss enterprises
