Hi Mike, sorry for the late reply. Regarding spam bots, there are some days when thousands of them are attempting to post to the forums and other areas of the site. We have a very complex distributed defense system which Chris has put together and it continues to evolve at a level close to artifcial intelligence and Chris' continuous research, monitoring and enhancements.

A few still make it into the forums but they are quickly flagged via the Report to Moderator link and we delete them right away.

Regarding forum enhancements, we are very close to developing a version of phpbb which will provide an interface to the same posts you see on the regular YT forums, and vice versa. Our goal is for people to be able to choose the older forum format (as it is currently) or the more modern format (like phpbb) as an interface, but the posts seen will be the same on both. It sounds like a complex scheme, and it is, but Chris is actually very very close to finalizing the methodology. After that it is just a matter of coding.

An interface to allow both to operate simultanously! That sounds like a fantastic plan! Complicated, so I wish him luck, but it would certainly end the debate!
