john_bud;I went back through my post and I fail to find the "aggressive in your face attitude" that you are talking about. As far as paper work,documentation,returning of parts,these are not just my ideas,these are the LAW in every state that I know of.These are the laws every registered repair fascility must abide by. Kenc, if you plan on having an unliscenced shop do your job,just remember you AND the shop give up any legal recourse if something should go wrong.First of all it is illegal for them to charge you for services rendered if he is not a registered repair fascility.The only settlement you can get if the worst happens is 5- $700 in small claims ct. Don't get me wrong,some of the BEST and most HONEST restorers are unregistered with the state and I don't blame them. If you can get hooked up with one of these people more power to you,. I'm not advocating being agressive in their face but you shouldn't be a "door mat" or a "free meal ticket" either.You probably won't get the names of any unregistered shops on this public forum...reasons are obvious. Hope you don't think this forum is just full of snobs. I see your post has been on here a few days without answer. The reason is obvious,recommending a rest. shop is like Russian Roulett.Everybody's priorities are different in what they expect.HONEST communication is the key when you find a potential shop.Tell them EXACTLY what you want done AND what you expect it to look like when finished.Don't generalize on anything! Be specific. Never use the phrase "IT DOESN"T HAVE TO BE A SHOW TRACTOR" especially to keep their price low! Now you have lost any reason to demand any better quallity out of the finished tractor than what he has given you.Put your demands on paper and require an itemized repair order detailing price break down per operation,parts and materials breakdown and any warrantee details.Discuss and agree on a specific refinish system.When finished job is delivered,demand to see any replaced parts and empty paint product cans.This is not distrust,this is good bussiness and if he is a good bussiness man,he shouldn't have any problem with it.If he's not he will spit you to the road early on because he knows you are NOT ripe for the pickin'.Good riddens' Last of all,don't sign the finished repair order and pay until you have went over the original order ,in detail,and are happy that he did all that he contracted to do for the price he quoted you.DO NOT LEAVE OUT OR GENERALIZE OR MINIMIZE IN AN ATTEMPT TO KEEP HIS ESTIMATE LOW!!!! You will be the one to pay the price in the end.There are just as many "unethical" customers as there are repair shops! Good luck! (sometimes we make our own luck)

that is right i have a shop in central ky we work on all type of tractors they can cost as much or as little as you like but you and the shop thats working on your tractor both need to know up front what you want as a finished product remember everyone has there owen ideal of what a restored tractor means thanks

Your fine and your advice is good advice. There are those of us that see capital letters as yelling. Indeed it is yelling when used in e-mail format. Those of us who think it is forget that perhaps everyone out there has not figured it out yet and then take a deep breath and relax. Having said that I'll say it again, your advice is good advice.
