cracked crankcase options?

hey everyone im working on restoring an old combine got it running and coolant is leaking out of the crankcase about a foot and half crack running acrossed it. anybody think i could run a bead of weld along that? or any other qiuck fixes? just cant afford to be ripping the thing apart and try to find a new crankcase for it.

Just make sure it isn't cracked on the inside and leaking into the oil in the oil pan.

What I usually do in this situation is weld it up using a rod made for cast and then use JB weld to seal up any small holes.I heat the area to be welded a little with a torch and after welding I let it cool very slowly by using the torch.Be careful though a spark in the wrong place might start a fire if the unit hasn't been cleaned good.

JB has fixed a many of these problems just get it clean and dry, remove paint, get to bare metal. I've seen it fix and hold for years and years. They have other products too, such as Mangum, comes in a round stick you just pull or cut off as much as you need roll it or nead it works good too. good luck Jim

I have seen blocks repaired by drilling and tapping the area around the crack and then plate it and gasket it by using 1/4" or 3/8" x1/4" screws and an old inner tube used for a gasket.Just don't drill too deep and use a bottom tap.
