paint question

I restored a tractor this past year by taking it completely apart, sandblasting everything, painting each part separately and reassembling. The problem is, all the newly painted bolts get scratched and banged up by the wrenches during reassembly. How does the factory or the pro restorers get around this problem? I've seen some nicely restored tractors with all the bolts looking like new. Thank you.

A lot of bolts were not painted from the factory. For the wheel bolts we have built a bolt holder and lightly spray all bolts at once and this way the paint is less likely to come off when using the wrench. For the tin we use stainless steel bolts.

The factory painted them after assembly. Some restorers will also do this. I prefer to do it like you have done and then use a very fine soft model car type detail brush and plenty of patience and paint them after assembled. Each to his own I guess.
