I just purchased a 530 and the party I bought it from told me they had put a new gas shut off under the tank. They said that if the gas was left on it would fill the carb and run into the crankcase. Well guess what, it happened. What can I do to correct this problem. And of course I couldn't get it started. I'm assuming that the spark plug just got wet and maybe it will go the next time I try it. All advice appreciated.

Your jd 530 should be equipped with an "automatic" fuel shut-off, where oil pressure (when the engine is running) pushes against a diaphram wich opens a small valve to allow fuel flow. With the engine shut down, spring pressure within the shutoff pushes the valve shut. The diaphram could be bad, or (more likely) the valve and housing are corroded and the valve is not closing. The fix is to rebuild the shut-off unit. Good luck!

Common problem with the 2 cylinder JDs. You might start by rebuilding the carb, but that will only slow it down some. You need to shut the gas off when ever you turn off the tractor. My JD-B has to have the gas turned off just to shut the engine down, but its also a 1935 and has a mag with no shut off other then turning off the gas.
