Is the tie rod end pressed or screwed into the top arm of the spindle assembly? There is a slotted top on the threaded piece that makes me wonder. If it is screwed on I dont want to beat on it. thanks

The arm is pressed into the tapered hole. The slot lets you hold the pin in case it turns while tightening or loosening the nut. Support the arm, remove the nut, reinstall upside down a few turns, and use a heavy punch, just big enough to fit inside the nut, contacting the pin. Whack it to loosen. No damage to any parts.

Another way is to bang on the side of the part that the tie rod end slides into! Ya really have to "smack" it hard, but it usually results in it popping loose! Keep nut on bolt, but loosely! RJ
