I have recently aquired a ford tractor. I have no idea what i have or how to find out. I think it is a 1942-1950 Ford-Furgenson System. Can someone help me determine where to get a model no.?

All 9N and 2N tractors use the 9N serial numbers. The split between the models is approx. 9N-99003 when they started making the 2N. One reason was to get a price increase from the War Production Board, and the lack of copper for starters, lights and etc. and rubber for tires. The 2n came out with a magneto, handcrank, steel wheels. Ford when to Roosevelt and convinced him that tractors were essential to the war effort as they could replace many men that had gone to war and made it easier for the remaining farmers and farmers wives to run the farms and keep up the food supply. Then copper and rubber was released for the tractors..Many 9N parts were used on the 2N's as there was a supply of parts to be used up. When they ran out of these parts, many had 2N part numbers molded in...1942 was the year that the model changed.

Explain more about it. Does it have a flat head engine of is it valve in head engine. If its a flat head engine the numbers will be on the left side of the block about center just under the head.

if its a valve in head engine the numbers will be in a flat place just behind the starter

That means its either a 9N or a 2N. The 9N was made from 1939 to 1941 and the 2N made from 1942 to 1947. If you look to the left in research&info on the left side of this page then serial numbers you should be able to find out what year it is and which one of the 2 it is.
