Hello all, I have a ford 2n that I rewired and converted to 12v. Put in an eletronic ignition. Fired the first turn. My problem is it runs great when just driving around and under small load. But when I put it under heavy load (using the front blade to remove heavey brush it starts to miss fire and almost dies. If I push in the cluth it picks backup up and runs great. Any Ideas? It has new plugs, converted to electronic igniton, new plug wires, new wiring, new altenator. Have bought a rebuild kit for the carb. That will be next.

Was it running OK before you did all this?

it wasn"t running at all when I bought it. I did get it running. the previous owner had already converted it to 12v but, wired it wrong so it wouldn"t shut off. It ran but very rough, then the coil burned out or something because I had no spark anymore. So I just figured heck might as well do it right. It purrs like a kitten when just driving around. only under heavy load does it start missing and tries to die.

Sounds like it could be starving for fuel. Rebuilding the carb would be the first step, but at the same time you need to inspect the fuel tank, sediment bowl, etc. You might not be getting enough fuel to the carb. because of rust or other crud.

I don't think its the timing. it purrs like a kitten while driving around no hesitation or back firing. I did notice some crud in the sediment bowl guess I will drain the tank and flush it out.
