kohler engine won't start

i have a ford lawn tractor...14 horse kohler engine..it would run for about ten minutes then would die, but would start up immediately, now it wont start at all..when i first turn it over it backfires from exhaust .it is getting fire to spark plug..it has a lot of hours on it and am afraid the rings may be leaking by causing it not to start...is this possible or could it just be a bad carb....any help would be appreciated....please e-mail me if you think you could help me figure this out

Sounds like the exhaust valve is hanging up when it heats up. Squirt a little marvel Mystery oil in the plug hole and mix a capful with your gasolene. It is common to have the exhaust valve hang up on a K321 K Series. Sure fix is to do a valve Job, but easier to try the Mystery Oil first. Kenny
