Need a starting point to start restoration

I am hoping that this is the correct forum. We just bought an older Case tractor (40"s to 50"s) that runs great. We just don"t know what year it is (plate is missing under starter button). The front axle looks square and is adjustable.We have found the following numbers stamped into the metal:

Engine block 6 21
Shifter plate VT207
Side of Transmission VT230 & 829
Rear End VT231 122

We would like to begin bringing it back to stock....if we knew what that was. Thanks!

Well, it was (early on in it's life) a Case VA ... now it's a blue and white Case VA with wheels/rims from something else that are bolted onto who know's what kind of hub behind the wheel and square plate (looks like they are from a LEADER tractor (they had the square inner wheel hubs). Then the grille was removed or lost and somebody invented one. Bringing it back to original would require proper rear wheels and a grille, then a hood with the front part still attached. Now I know why Case didn't go with blue for their tractors.

I appreciate all the responses. Here are some photos that may help and do a better job then my description. Cleaned the carb and the tractor runs like a champ.

I agree with mark once you start it's like you get addicted you just can't stop. and i found out that when we took the motor and head andd all of that to get cleaned out and grinded and all of that they could actually find out what kind of tractor it was by the motor. so mabey if you still arn't sure after a while you could take it into a mechanical shop that overhauls motors and that sort of thing to see if they could pin point the tractor model

That shifter plate sounds like a VAC tractor....Let us know what size rear tires are on it, as well as the shape of the lip on the valve cover( does it point up, or turn down, does it have a 3 pt hitch, and we can pin-point it a little closer for ya...

I usually find that once I pick up a wrench and put it to use it begins.

Yes I understand a few facts going into it surely wouldn't hurt.
