Problem with Kohler 141S Engine, No Spark

I just recently purchased a Toro 70" Reelmower. It came in pieces, and I am trying to put it back together. I finally am down to the engine, and I am having a problem getting spark thru the coil. I believe I have everything hooked up correctly, but I want to be sure. I have one wire coming from the swich hooked to the negative terminal of the coil. The condenser, and points are also connected the the negative side. Then on the positive side, I have another wire from the switch which provides a constant 12V. When I turn it over, everything appears to be working correctly. The points are sparking slightly, but it is not sending current back to the spark plug. Also, If I try to tap a ground on the negative terminal of the coil, it will create a spark to the plug. So does anyone know what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry. I wrote that wrong. The switch is connected to the (+) positive terminal. Any other suggestions?

The negative side of the coil goes to the points and condensor only. There should not be a wire from the switch to the negative.
