so from what I've seen it's probabally a 9N-2N.
The thing is thousands of miles away at a family vacation spot in the middle of nowhere.

My brother and I are mechanically inclined types, and we've tinkered with the tractor in the past.
Parts are hard to come by out there for sure, so we had to hand cut gaskets for the carb/etc.

IIRC, the sediment bowl leaked on us and we couldn't quite fix it. Can't remember why.. I'm sure this is common.

Anyways we've had it running in the past with inrermittent stalling problems and hard starts, and we're getting ready to go there again and would like to make it run better... so this time with a littlel thinking ahead I can order some tune up parts..

Anyways, without being able to positively ID the thing what small/tune-up parts are sure to work and what parts aren't?

I guess what I'm asking is, is there a carb rebuiuld kit that applies to all the 9n-2n tractors or are they specific? What about points and condensors? Etc.

From memory I think that it has an end drive distributor -- does this have points or is it a magneto drive? Can't recall...

And, of course, beyond these questions, what common problems should I be on the lookout for this time around? What should I go prepared with?

Keep in mind, this place iss in the middle of nowhere -- parts and internet access are out of the question... so I'd prefer to take a shotgun approach and just throw a bunch of cheap/common parts at it.. carb rebuild, ignition tune-up, --I'd like to get away with spending $75, which seems doable.

Tractor Supply Company in my town has a lot of Ford parts, such as carb kits, tune up kits and such. If you have one nearby, try them.
