Along the lines of restoration tips and tricks I thought I would share this. In the spring I bought a 1969 Ford 3400 tractor with about a half turn of play in the steering. It has three tie rod ends per side, all of which were worn out. Rather than replace with new I burned out the old poly (?) liners with a propane torch and poured babbit metal in the resulting cavity. New heater hose boots and reinstall. It's made it through most of the spring hay season with nice tight steering. Total cost was near zero since I had all the things I needed for other reasons

what material did you use for babbit?? sounds like a good way to replace some sleves in a very worn out tedder,,, wanted to use bronze sleves but the cost is slighty prohibitive

Babbit is an alloy of lead and ?, I forget off the top of my head, but its about 85% lead. Its used as bearing material in older machinery and Model A engines, amongst other things. A *real*, ie not chain, hardware store might have it. If all else fails McMaster-Carr has it. There are lots of links on the web about how to prepare and pour it. It can be poured around a shaft for a custom fit bushing, as you want. Good stuff, indespensible in the restoration of old machinery.
