I'M THINKING OF MAKING A OFFER ON A 53 GOLDEN JUBILIE THAT HAS BEEN SITTING OUTSIDE FOR APPROX 2 YRS. WAS RUNNING AND USED FOR MOWING. OTHER THAN CHECKING THE VARIOUS FLUID LEVELS ARE THERE ANY PRECAUTIONS BEFORE PUTTING SOME JUICE TO IT AND TRYING TO START IT.

I am about to embark on the same idea only a Farmall Super C. Start by changing the oil and filter, if the battery is shot, if its a six volt system try jumping it with another six volt system. Then try and turn the engine over with the hand crank. If it's free, it's a wonderful thing. Let me know how things go.

Well, if you can get it to crank over, before trying to start, I would change the oil, then drain all gas out as well as carb, make sure you are getting gas to carb, then try to start. once started, only run for a very short while, like 30-60 seconds then shut off and change antifreeze etc. Also, once started, just let run at a low idle for a little while, meaning don't crank it wide open as soo as it starts. If I was going to do it, first, I'd squirt a teaspoon or so of motor oil onto the pistons via sparkplug holes, then, I'd roll the engine over with a crank, or wrench, before hitting the starter.
