I am restoring a john deere tractor and i am considering getting a sandblaster to remove the paint. but i was wondering how easy it would be and if it would be worth the money. and i could also use some tips on how to do it and how long it will take.

I have been sandblasting stump grinders and brush chippers for years. Also done about a dozen engines after I have rebuilt them. Never had a problem but MUST MUST cover anything that sand will hurt. I first cover with masking type that about 3 layers of duct tape. The first time I sandblasted, I only used duct tape and it took forever to get off. Good Luck

Sandblasting is a dirty, messy job. Leaves lots of residue (sand and paint ) on the ground and anywhere else nearby. If you have a place to do it it works well. Better yet is to have a pro do the work in his booth. Keeping sand out of seals and other critical areas is quite a challange as well. The best use for sand blasting I have used is to have a cabinet and put individual pieces in. That works great. Cleans right down to bare metal that only needs to be washed before priming and painting.
