I'm trying to find a workaround replacement for a very rare aftermarket tractor part. To accomodate the length of an auxilliary transmission a longer PTO shifter coupling has been installed in this Ford 600. I've found one out of another model tractor with the correct splines in both ends and the correct diameter but although it's longer than the original stock part, it's still not as long as the piece that I'm trying to replace. I've calculated the original amount of PTO shaft to coupling spline mesh at about 1 1/4". With the coupling I have located, the mesh will only be about 3/4". The diameter of the PTO shaft is 1 1/8". If I can't get this to work, I'm going to have to try welding a section of the old one onto the new one. I'm NOT thrilled about that. Any thoughts or opinions?
