I have been searching for parts on my restoration of Massey To-35 with a perkins diesel. The diesel came from a MF 235, it has an alternator. I have found a parts supplier that lists both an ammeter and an amperage guage. Both are two inches in diameter so they will both fit. Which one should I choose? The old one was missing from the dash. I always thought they were the same. Guess not. Thanks.

Two names - Same thing
Ammeter is short for amperage meter.
Meter, gauge - same thing

An ammeter shows amps being charged (+) or dis-charged (-) and reads from center to a range like -30 to +30 whereas an amperage gauge shows just the amps flowing in the electrical line. An amperage gauge is marked from 0 to "x" number of amps. An example is the clip-on battery to starter-cable gauge that shows the starters' amp draw and works by measuring the inductive field produced in the cable when starting. In other words, an ammeter shows quantity and direction of flow and an amperage gauge shows just the quantity.

I think they would be the same. The only difference I can think of would be the readout. One could be -20 0 +20 the other D 0 C. thr to get pictures. Either meter is functionally the same. Doc.
