What do some of you use to seal bolts that go all the way through the housing or water jacket to keep them from leaking externaly around the threads, I hate with a passion silicone you never where it goes after it ozzes inside the housing.

Permetex #2 is the only thing I've ever used on Chevy heads and water pumps. Never had a problem one.

. . . a pipe joint compound containing Teflon.

As has already been mentioned, Rectorseal 5 is an industry standard; I've also used and been happy with Federal Process Company's "Gasoila", Radiator Specialty Company's "Solder Seal 55", and William Harvey Company's "TFE Paste with Teflon".

You're more likely to find these products at a hardware or plumbing-supply store than at an auto parts store . . . but that doesn't mean that they don't work very well on automotive engines.

If you don't know what that is (as I don't....but maybe O'Riley's has it as they do a lot of engine stuff) Permatex #2 works good. Real thick and gooey, resists petroleum prod and heat, and remains pliable; not soft, pliable. Doesn't get brittle and crack.

Will release iffin you need to back it out later.

Rectorseal is available at Lowes and most other good building supply houses.Sure doesn't look like it will seal anthing but it does.
