Well, you could refrain from hauling anything heavier than leaves or feathers in it, but i know you didn"t buy it for that! Best thing to do when buying any product you"re going to dump sharp things into, is to buy an aluminum bed type, or one constructed of galvanised steel! Or, have that Rhino Lining, or something similar put on it, like folks do on their pickup beds. The process for refinishing it will be expensive, but it can be done! Only thing--whenever you dump sharp rocks into it, it will probably knock the paint off it again! Trouble with anything made today-cost/ profit ratio is the denominator. The steel made today is not the best quality, because the additives they used to put in it are not in it any more, ostensibly to save money and keep the price down! I have a Sears Craftsman yard cart, which has done the same thing as your truck dump bed! No primer on it under the factory paint! Peeled like crazy, especially the floor, and some on the outside! I sanded the rust well, brushed on several coats of Rust-oleum Rusty metal primer, then 2 coats of R-O dark green paint! Don"t know how long it will last, but it will get sold in the spring! by: Rusty Jones p.s.: I got that name from patching rusty cars!
