We have a late 50"s ford 951 that has excessive valve train noise when engine has been running for over an hour especially under a load. Tractor starts, runs great and has plenty of power when cold and starts when hot. Can you adjust the valves when trator is hot? If so, how do you do so?

Dad used to make the final adjustment on the AC engines while warmed up and idling. Valve cover off- crack the locknut loose, hold the feeler gauge in one hand and the screwdriver in the other. Tighten enough to feel a bit of a drag on the gauge (push and pull the guage). Hold the screwdriver in the same position and tighten the locknut. Takes a while to get used to everything jiggling.
