Number One Cylinder on Allis Chalmers Model G

I want to time my Model G tractor.I Need to get the number 1 piston at top of compression stroke. Is the number one cylinder on the timing gear end of engine or is it on the radiator and fan end? Sounds like a dumb question but if you thing about it for a little bit it's not so dumb. Thanks

Thanks Bob, you have confirmed my thinking and I shall procede with timing. I am finishing restoring the G, didn't have to do much with the engine. So didn't have it open to verify the location of #1. Thanks again Ray A.

The engine in that little fella is mounted backwards of normal, so #1 cylinder, which is at the timing gear end, opposite the flywheel end, is the cylinder nearest the back end of the tractor.

I would say that the #1 cylinder is the one by the radiator, not at the back of the tractor. I have worked on these but it's been awhile.
