I just aquired a 9N from my neighbor who was abusing the poor thing. Runs quite well inspite of everything and the hydraulics work surprisingly well given that the fluid looks something akin to melting vanilla ice cream (I"m figuing it has more than a little water whipped into a nice froth in there). I"m not in a position to tear everything apart just yet. Any ideas on how to "clean up" the mess in there?

Changing the oil a couple of times should get rid of the milk, however, the oil isn't cheap, and there probibly be a lot of sludge in the bottem of the case. The 9N hydraulic control valve can become stuck also. The other issue is rust and scoring of the lift cylinder. I would highly recommend you remove the pump out of the bottem and clean the sludge. Just drop the pump and clean out the goo, then refill with new oil. (I know getting the control valve rods disconnected is a pain).

Safest way is to run it utill it gets hot, drain it and refill. be carefull a 9n requires a mineral base oil. run it a few hours, drain & refill. Its expensive but the safest way.
