I have a AC B with a dent in the tank. It sat for a decade and Im fixing it up. I usally pop them dents out by pumping tank full of air, Upon trying this, As soon as I turned on the air, a quater size hole opened up on tank bottom. I stuck my finger in it and as soon as I put the air on...another hole. It was pretty funny. Turns out about 6"x6" of bottom of tank was toast. I was planing on welding on a patch with the mig, but thats a real pain getting it really air tight. Can fiberglass resins be used? I thinkI remember vinyl ester resin being gas proof. Not sure though. perhaps epoxy resin or good old cheep polyester resin? Any input would be great.
Thanks
Joe

I'd say yes and the only criteria are 2: hygiene and porosity. So scratch it up good (180 grit paper) to get the surface roughed up and then clean it good with a non residue cleaner (Acetone) prior to application. Put the resin on and embedd the glass in the resin then come back with more resin, all in one step.

Did this on a '48 Chev.passenger car tank. Just cleaned it good with Ospho acid cleaner, then dried it off and wiped it down one last time with lacquer thinner. Then coated the area with resin, then applied the fiberglas matting which is supposedly stronger than just the cloth. When this all dried over the weekend, I did the same thing over again, and it is still in use. This was an alternative to a $250.00 gas tank.
