Well, ya have to get it really clean, including the frame, hood, and any other sheet metal parts. You should remove the engine, and clean it separately! Take off the wheels. Use Gunk or oven cleaner to loosen up any caked grease, or oils, etc., on the engine or frame of the tractor, then after following the directions on the Gunk can, hose it off with high water pressure! Try not to squirt the ignition switch, or any electrical stuff. wrap those things with plastic bags and masking tape, until you"re done with the high pressure water cleaning! Set her out in the sun to dry. When dry, use mineral spirits to really clean everything to get any oily film off of it! When ya get the frame/ floor pan clean and dry, sand any rust with #80 sand paper, then sand the old paint with #220 sand paper. I use "Fre-cut" for that job. It is a sanding paper sold by auto body shop suppliers. Clean off the sanding dust with air pressure. wash again with mineral spirits. When dry, coat any bare metal with primer. (Ask CNKS) in this forum what primer to use. When primer is dry, sand it smooth, and any over spray, too, then you can apply the finish coat. Again, ask CNKS what paint to use, or ask at the body shop supplier what to use. i"m not "up" on painting any more, since i got allergic to it! As for the engine, make sure you dig out any caked grease or oils on it, using GUNK and water rinse. blow out any water, then wash with the spirits, let it dry in the sun, then paint it black, masking off what you don"t want the paint to get into! The wheels, if really rusty, can be sand blasted. If not too rusty, sand them by hand, mask the tires well, prime any bare spots, then paint the back sides, and after they are dry, turn them over and paint the fronts, or outer sides. that way, any over spray will not be on the outside, and won"t be noticeable on the backs, although you can mask off the inner side when dry! The front axle can be hand painted after cleaning it good. by: Rusty Jones
