I have taken my carb(TSX-27) apart all the pieces are there. My problem is that there is rust in the bottom of the bowl.I beleive that the carb body is cast iron. I was going to glass bead the inside of the bowl and repaint the inside. Is this the best way to do this? Any other suggestions before I continue would be great. I don't want to damage the carb.Thanks Jason

Jason - That bowl rust is easily cleaned up as the others suggest below. And I agree with RealRon: DO NOT PAINT the bowl interior! Contact with gasoline will quickly soften and loosen the paint and clog the carb up worse than it was before. Besides, as long as water is kept out of the fuel the bare carb internals will not rust.

Simply clean the visible rust off the bowl casting, rinse/blow it out real good then put it back together.

Yes, it's cast iron, and the rust is easily removed with a brass wire brush. They make one about the size of a toothbrush that is perfect for this... any hardware store. Under no circumstances paint any part of the carburetor that fuel will contact.

I rebuilt a MS carb with rust particles plugging the main jets, soaked the housing with the main jet removed in muratic acid [ 40%], rinsed it, blew out all jet passages. Ran like new after assembly.
