I'm restoring a '45 "A" JD that accumulates too much fuel in the carb. It has a new sediment bulb-shut off, and new 3-way valve. The carb loaded up before the new stuff was put on, but was checked by the mechanic (it had a new needle and seat installed along with the complete overhaul about 6 months ago. Has anyone else had this problem?? What to do?? TIA

In reading my new manuals this weekend, the blue boys mentioned what is called "fuel perculation" where fuel from the bowl perculates from there thru the venturi pipes to the air chamber and out on the ground (if the air inlet pipe is off). So it sounds like a natural phenomen. C utting off fuel when not being used was a way to stop it. Don't remember the other suggestions. I'm guessing heat was a culprit and maybe insuring (what you did) that the needle seat works and the float is adjusted parallel with the housing (for full).

If all else fails take your float out and put it in a bucket with hot water and that will check the float for leaks. If there are bubbles then you have get a new float or repair the one you have.Your needle valve won't work if the float doesn't.
