I have posted before, looked at and am posting again my problem. My rocker arms don't line up dead center to the valve stems. I have taken apart again. No evidence of excessive wear. Rocker arms as well as support mounts are all the same thickness. If any one is really familiar with how these line up I would really appreciate the advice.
thanks, Harold

Thank you both.

Looking at the Ford shop manual, the assembly needs no other parts, as in spacers. Only the diesel uses spacers.

When a support post broke and I disassembled, and had the rocker arm faces ground at a machine shop to smooth up so I don't have a history mark.

I did check each rocker arm yesterday and they are identical as well as the thickness of the mounting posts. No wear evident.

I am beginning to believe ford was that sloppy in where these hit the value stems. However, the thought of a previous owner messing up what’s there is my concern.

In each case, if I shimmed it would improve the strike point. Just don't know if I'm needlessly chasing perfection, which is a problem I suffer from.

If I can get some washers that are used on the ends of the rocker arm shaft, I guess I wouldn't hurt the situation by shimming.

Of course another week or two of chasing parts. Some days a new John Deere looks pretty good.

Thanks
Harold

Harold you hit it. I have seen several rails with shim washers on them and obviously they are there to do what you want to do. For some reason I thought your rocker was against the post and you wanted the strike point closer, not farther.

Go get em.

I responded before. Did you by chance disassemble your valve train and maybe get the wrong rocker installed?

How about a previous owner getting the valve train messed up. Maybe a close examination would answer that question. If at least 2 are out of alignment question may be answered.

Remove the rocker assy and turn it over and examine where the rocker has been hitting before. Maybe there is a clue there.

Thinking aloud, the face of the rocker is wider than the rocker. Maybe they are made that way to tolerate some misalignment?

What engine are you working on?

As sloppy as it seems, I have noticed that on various engines, and have worked on engines with wear marks on the rocker arms way off center, near the edge of the "pad" that depresses the valve.

The only thing I can think of, if you are using matching parts, if the alignment is worse than it should be, has someone done a poor job of replacing the valve guides, so the tops of the valve stems are a little "off" of their original position?
