I want to take off the sheet metal off of a 1952 JD-A. How do I take the steering wheel off to get the sheet metal removed?

Remove the steering wheel.
Remove the nose piece in the front.
Remove the two bolts on the front of the steering shaft bearing. Rotate the steering shaft clockwise and it will screw itself out of the gear.
Remove the steering shaft. Now you are ready to remove sheet metal.

Maybe you misread his post .... your first step was to remove the steering wheel and that sounded like his question (or maybe you don't have to take the wheel itself off the shaft). Maybe check with him again.
