My 1984 Ford 4610, 3 cylinder (diesel) misses after running fine for about 5 minutes. Then it loses power. I shut it down and crank it back up and again runs fine then starts to miss. I drained the fuel tank and found there was alot of water and rust. I cleaned the tank, I have installed a new radiator, new air filters. I have changed oil filter, the fuel filter, installed new shut off valve on the tank, blew out the lines, bled the lines. (I still get air from injector #3). I have checked for leaks and found none anywhere. The tank is full and fuel return works properly. The only thing I know to do next is replace the injectors, and if that doesn't work, get the pump rebuilt. I am really trying to avoid having to spend money on injectors or the pump if that is not the problem. Does anyone have a suggestion??? Where is all that air coming from? Please Help!

George has a pretty good theory. Before you go buying injectors and a lot of trouble you might try cracking loose the line at each injector just a little and one at a time to see if you can pin point the cylinder missing. Be careful b/c that is probably a high presure system. Just loosen it enough to get a little fuel squirting out and you should be able to notice a change in the sound of the engine. I'm not familier with this engine to give you much info but Ih ope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. When I loosen #1 & 2 there is an obvious difference in the sound of the engine, but no difference on #3.

greg,

sounds like the pintle is sticking in that injector letting the compression come back up

into the injector .
