b john deere rear hubs stuck

we have a b john deere with rear disc wheels that were mounted to the inside of the hubs. the only way to remove the wheels was to pull the hubs off and they were stuck bad.we pushed, pulled, heated and such for hours. several people told me to torch the hubs off and get different ones. instead we drilled 3/16" holes in a line close together out from the hub split holes in the thin parts of the hub. then we broke the hubs in three pieces and removed them. next we welded them back together on the axles turned around so that we could mount the wheels on the outside.after a week of no hope we spent one saturday afternoon doing this and it turned out good with only the expense of 6 drill bits and some patience.

It hasn't turned out good yet. You don't know how long the welds will last, or what will happen when they fail.

on this hub there is a collar that goes over the splined part of the hub. the collar would have to split in order for the hub to fail and also the splines would have to fail and they are very good.we have larger tractors that we plow with here and dont plan on testing this one but having been a welder for 25 years ,yes i would say not to weld this at home without knowledge of what it takes to get the job done right. but the way the hub and wheel assembly is made, i actually welded it for looks and insurance. i would not be afraid to use it and am going to. have also had experience with welding steel wheels back together and plowing without failure.
