Put my pedestal and steering rod back on after restoration work and had about 1 turn of slop. Any ideas what I did wrong and any fixes?

There are two adjustments on this steering sector. First is the end play on the tapered roller bearings on the steering wheel shaft into the sector housing. should be adjusted to have almost no end play by the shims and/or gaskets under the worm end cap. It is easier to adjust this with the half moon sector gear out of the box. The other adjustment is an eccentric bushing under the worm gear that has a pin in the housing, and different notches in the bushing. You move the mesh of the worm and sector closer together with this bushing to take up slack. CAUTION!! Do be sure you make this adjustment at either end of the half moon gear, NOT, in the middle which is looser because if you adjust it in the middle at the point of greatest wear, when you turn the sector gear to the ends which are not worn, IT WILL Break THE HOUSING!!! While you are doing all this jack it up slightly and check the thrust bearing in the lower end of the pedestal for looseness or binding. What ever you do be slow and careful with this procedure so as not to damage anything. It is best to follow the manual's outlined procedure if you have access to one.
