I started out in mechanical work, in the local Ford dealer's mechanic shop as the tractor mechanics helper! Wen we took the tractor apart, we used the over head frame-work that held the chain hoist. Then a jack under the transmission to hold it up! Then we unbolted the front section, with the engine, front axle assembly, radiator, hood, etc. This was let down onto the floor and braced so it wouldn't fall over! Then, with the chain hoist holding up the back section, we unbolted the transmission from the differential (Which was propped up to prevent it from falling down on us!) With the tranny on a large floor jack and 3 guys holding it, it was let down onto a wheeled cart, and moved to where the mechanic could work on it. When you take these tractors apart, be VERY CAREFUL!! The large sections will knock ya down and jump on ya when ya least expect it! Everything must be braced, tied, bolted, chained for your safety! Don't let the front or rear sections just set there, without some sort of tie-back! Just think---the engine assembly falls on yer leg, late at night, everybody else is in bed, and the phone is at the other end of the shop! Not nice! Rusty Jones

What do you need to repair? For major tranny repairs, the tractor has to be split at the clutch housing, and again at the flanged joint ahead of the rear axle, to completely separate the transmission from the tractor for service.
