When do rear tires absolutely have to be replaced? Dealer told me I have weather checking & dry rot. Tractor will have minimal use. Owner can't afford new tires. Does tire putty work? Or Miller paint? Thanks for any help.

When the air comes out of them and no longer will stay in them, then you will know it is time. How long an old, cracked tire will run depends on many things. If they are loaded up with wheel weights and heavey 3 point impliments, they won't last long. Run them till they go flat but know in the back of ur mind they will have to be replaced one day and start setting aside a little cash.

If it's a working tractor and appearances don't matter, you can run them until they won't hold air. When the dry rot reaches the point that the lugs or sections of sidewall start to peel off, they're gonna fail when it's least convenient. Using tire putty or paint will retard the deterioration, but maybe it will make them last until affordable replacements can be obtained.

Bigdog, thank you for your input. You said they can be run until they won't hold air, these tires have tubes, so what exactly do you mean? I know absolutely NOTHING about tractor tires. Thanks!

When the tube are exposed and get holes in them. You'll know when to get new tires when you are running on flats or the rims.
