f-20 piston rings so go in sleeves

i have a 1938 f-20 and the connecting rod will not go down the past the sleeves u have to push the piston up from the bottom and put the rings on the top of the block, i got the rings all on and now there is no way to get the piston to go down i tried my cuz ring compressor but i still dnt wrk any help would be very thankful The F-20 Man

Zack is right, make sure ring grooves in piston are clean and free of carbon before installing ring on piston. Also, before installing ring on piston, put the ring in cylinder by itself without piston. Should be a gap in-between the ends of the ring. Hopefully you got the right ring for the correct cylinder bore. Also make sure you got the ring compressor clamped down tight enough. Ussually takes some minor light tapping to get it in. I ussually use a hammer, but only hit the top of the piston with the wooden handle of the hammer. Shouldn't have to pound, just hard taps.

If lands are clean, check for ring end gap. May require filing. Joe

you might have carbon buildup in the ring groves,and forceing the rings on and in the sleeves will result in damage. try to clean out the grooves with a piston grove cleaner before you continue,rings weare down and allow carbon to buildup between ring and piston the new rings are wider naturally because of no wear down and carbon needs to be cleaned out.

Just an idea but who knows it might work take a large hose clamp the screw type and use it as a ring compressor, you will probably need to do one ring at a time but if it works it works
