I need to replace the seal on the steering gear housing . It is called the "worm wheel shaft oil seal". This is on a B Farmall. Can anyone help with the number of this seal? Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike; Ifyour seal is not to badly corroded,you may be able to clean it up enough to read the number.I notice that your question has been on here for three days so decided to try to help.If you can't read the number,pull the seal and take some measurements.If the seal is not destroyed in removal you wont need to measure the outside or the thickness but will need to find the shaft diameter.If you are not familiar w/ a micrometer or verneier caliper you can just lightly tighten to the shaft and lock on the reading.Then take the old seal with the measuring instrument to any NAPA store and they can get the necessary size from those two items.Or you can measure with an outside caliper by adjusting to a very light feel on the shaft then take it along with the seal.If the seal is trashed then you will need to measure the hole with an inside caliper.You will not need the IH mfg. number. Most seals are made by Garlock ,Chicago Rawhide or National seal and cross ref.books are used to find the size and number.If not in stock NAPA usually will furnish overnight service. Hope this helps.
