i recently bought a 770 oliver thinking i was getting a good deal, it wouldnt run right i had avalve job done (everything) rewired, new alt , complete tuneup ,rebuilt carb, and it runs pretty good except hard starting without using choke, and burns a lot of oil not under load, under load seems fine and it does seem to have a lot of power . it has sat for 5 years before i bought it is it wishful thinking for me to think it will start not burning oil and running better or will i be putting new rings in it, p.s. it has great oil pressure thanks peter

sounds like you could have some stuck rings you could try this put some turpentine in all the plug holes and let it sit a day or 2 drain the oil and put freash in and see if that helps the turpentine will eat away any ruct that might be there and loosen any stuck rings hope this helps it could also be a rusty cylinder wall by the way
