I just recently bought a 1970 Triumph Spitfire.I was told that the engine was stuck cause it had been in water, the guy said that he had pulled out the plugs and filled each cyclinder with diesel fuel.It had been sittin for years in a barn the rest of the old car is decent as for the engine it may or may not make it any suggestions.I thought about pulling it out and putting in a 2.3 FORD engine or a chevette or s10 4banger any way it is for sale..cheap. body is pretty solid has independent rear suspension cool!!!!!

Congratulations on the Spitfire. I own several myself.

A 2.3 does not fit under the hood due to the overhead cam and due to the oilpan. While it can be forced in with some cutting of the hood (bonnet in british speak), it's not a very good way to go. You can buy good running Spitfire engines for just a few hundred dollars.

is there still diesal in the cylinders?? if so blow it out and then put turpentine in them and let them sit if it is going to give that will do it I've only had 1 engine that didn't after I did that to it

you should also drain the old it will probably have water in the pan if it does you can also put turpentine in the pan that will help with the lower end of the engine I'd put 2 or 3 gallions in the pan then if it unlocks drain it all out and put some good oil in and you should have a good engine again
